That said though, all the behind the scenes shit, the switching of directors, reshoots, lack of marketing and release date changes, all that has me pretty wary. But I hope Ron Howard knows how to handle it.

I really don't get the hate. It looks like fun. I mean I understand all the arguments against it and what not but... I guess I just don't think the character is sacred or anything. If it ends up being a bad movie, oh well. It'll go along with those Watchmen prequels into the forgotten zone and eh, no big deal. If it ends up being a cool movie, then cool.

And I don't take that as a hardline stance. Dark Knight Rises definitely dented Dark Knight for me, so I understand the feeling. But I'm optimistic about Solo. Yeah, I think it'll be fun.

Wow so yeah they're all sold out of black panther tickets. Maybe next week!

I, Tonya was the best movie about Tonya harding that could be made. The acting is fantastic and it's entertaining. That said, there are better movies.

Okay I KNOW you fuckers watched Black Panther

Going tomorrow, if tickets aren't sold out. There's an Alamo Drafthouse in walking distance that does all ages Tuesday matinees, and Molly has the day off, so we're taking the little dude.

Now that my movie pass has been working and the weather's been nice, I've actually been taking him every Tuesday. It's great. We saw Coco and I, Tonya. And now Black Panther. I think there's a new tomb raider coming out after that, so I guess we'll see it but I'm not expecting much. Same with with Wrinkle in Time. And then Ready Player One!

I know nothing about this or anything that's going on

but another reasonable explanation for cc companies banning buying crypto is

too many people are doing it and they suspect it's going to tank and no one's going to be able to pay off their debt

...I love the uber dark/depressing side of Black Mirror.

It's what made it one of my favorite shows. I haven't caught up on the newest season yet, but I keep hearing it's a little more optimistic, and that has me sort of put off.

Yeah I think you and I were pretty far apart on black mirror, but even with s3 they were starting to get away from what I felt was just a handsomeal view of people in general. I've only watched a bit of the new season, and the two episodes I saw (mild spoilers?) ended on at least sort of an up-note (though that's more a symptom of the overall trend), but in general I feel like it's becoming less... what it was and more just a general modern day twilight zone.

...literally my favorite show in the history of television.

So...maybe we just have different tastes?

yeah I think we do. But also, have you watched Sopranos recently? I do think that a lot of it was kind of ground-breaking for its time stuff so even watching it I wondered if maybe it wasn't as interesting to me because it suffered from seinfield syndrome. I didn't not enjoy it, but I guess I was expecting a show about the mafia and what I saw was more a drama about family dynamics, with the mafia just being another complication in the family. Which isn't bad, but again it was just fine, watching it fresh in 2017-2018.

Also I will never forget how freaking weird and awkward it was that the actor who played Tony's mother passed away and they decided to CGI in outtakes of her face onto a stand-in. Back before CGI was even halfway even able to actually do that.

I watched about half the first episode but didn't dig it.

Does it get better/different or is it just not gonna be for me? I keep seeing it be recommended, and specifically recommended for someone who's into the things I'm into.

In other news, I've become more of a fan of Black Mirror since they started to move away from having every episode be a depressing lecture about the evils of society.

Also, we FINALLY finished the Sopranos (overall, eh) and have started watching Goliath, which is David E. Kelley's (The Practice, Boston Legal, Big Little Lies or whatever that HBO show was with nicole kidman that won every award) amazon show. It's good, and Billy Bob Thorton is blowing me out of the water, I kind of thought he didn't have it in him, or maybe had kind of given up "good" acting.

But it's a mini-series so we'll be through with that soon... any recommendations? I'm thinking of pirating Atlanta next, but I'd rather stay away from pirating if I can avoid it.

(ps we're also watching through grey's anatomy which is our "fall asleep" show... it's great because it's fairly consistent, usually not very heavy and there's like 14 seasons of it. It's not GOOD tv, but it's good to fall asleep to)

I did really enjoy the show, it was great to hear with the orchestra, I just felt like they could've picked better songs and, I know this is crazy but I was really hoping they'd have some new material to show off

I guess it really just felt like a streetlight show with an orchestra, which was cool, but I was expecting it to be a little more.... botar, not streetlight.

pizza suprema on 30th and 8th is the best by the slice place in the city.

for a long time i would've told you juliana's in brooklyn is the best by the pie place, but i think their quality went down juuuust a little which makes it not worth the perpetual 1.5 hour wait.

tbh at this point i think trying to put them in order is just a fool's errand because by now there's so many over such an expansive time period, that you get very different things out of them. At this point it's not about which is better, it's about which I'm in the mood to watch.

If for any reason your card doesn't work, they'll refund you the cost of your tickets if you have to pay out of pocket (just remember that it's only standard screenings, no 3D/imax/etc).

Yeah I looked into that too

1) You have to actually get a response to your problem, which like I said is apparently taking months (mine has been up for about two weeks)

2) Maybe this is a recent change, but they say that they'll ONLY refund tickets where they authorize BEFORE you pay out of pocket that they'll refund you. Which obviously isn't possible since they're not answering support questions for weeks or months

3) Lots of people said that they raised hell about it and got a refund anyway, and I'm sure that's true... but it means to get a refund I have to wait weeks or months for a response, then argue with a representative, then raise hell until I get them to agree to go against policy and issue the refund anyway. And apparently there's no mechanism for them to escalate you to a supervisor to fast track it, you either convince the guy on the chat/e-mail to issue the refund or not, and presumably he's been told to only do it for problem customers.

For a while people were recommending tweeting them and got their problem resolved immediately, but then apparently word got out and everyone started doing it and now I've heard that most of the time they completely ignore tweets too.

I've got a lot of friends who strongly support it like you do (which is why I finally got one), but... I really think that there's just been a huge difference in quality between people who got it a few months ago and people who got it recently. People who got it a few months ago aren't really seeing many problems, it seems.

Anyway like I said, I'll still keep it and try it out at least for a little while but I was really excited about it, and now I"m... not. I was all ready to sing the praises of it and how great it is (I've been following the company since they were $60/mo, considering getting one), but now if anyone asks me about it I'll probably say something like "Eh, if you really go see a lot of movies anyway it might be worthwhile but if you're on the fence it could be a lot of hassle and not work that well".

So there you go.

This should be how it works. They bill you for your first month immediately, but you don't get billed for your second month until a month after you first activate the card.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure what happened is it wouldn't let me activate it myself, then it activated itself automatically. I got an e-mail saying "You should have your card so your account is going to start now", then the card status switched to my card # and the "billing cycle" date clicked on on that day's date (before it had just been blank).

So I mean, at $10/mo it's not the end of the world, but it's a little disappointing that it's already not working how it's supposed to, and from all the troubles others are having, it's really not going to be worth much if it's a random chance on whether it'll work or not when I get to the theater. If you see a movie every week either way, then it's probably worth it anyway, but I'd be specifically going because I have the moviepass, so having to pay out of pocket would suck.

So apparently when you get your card, it's supposed to pop up with a prompt when you log-in asking for your card info. That didn't happen. And my "Card status" was stuck on "Processing", and when I tried to use it it said "Account in an incorrect status"

Which, all told, sounds like my card just hadn't processed yet... which was annoying, because moviepass kept telling me as soon as I got my card I could use it. (and didn't know it wouldn't work until I was already at the movies, and ended up paying out of pocket for a movie I thought I'd have the pass for)

I did some digging and apparently this is just one of the MANY issues people have been having... and from what I've seen, besides a few one-offs like the network being down, it sounds like everyone who's had issues has gotten their card within the last month or so. I know lots of people that say they got it a few months ago and have had no problems whatsoever.

My guess is they got super extra overwhelmed with holiday subscriptions and it fucked the whole thing (they've released some statements saying they got overwhelmed since the price drop, and I'm guessing the holidays totally blew them up). People are having all kinds of problems, and the real issue is support is way backlogged.

Anyway, eventually my card status went from "Processing" to listing the actual info on my card all on its own, so I think my particular problem is fixed... but it's kind of annoying that I couldn't use it when I got it/wanted to use it, and started getting billed for it when I won't be using it for a little while. Like, either/or would have been fine, either it worked when I needed it to, or it doesn't start the billing cycle until I'm ready to use it again.

I hope it works from here on out, but I'm not super optimistic, especially with everyone saying support is so backlogged. One of the major advertising points when I signed up was that you could get support at any time and have your problem immediately fixed.

Also I've been lol'ing at all the stories of people not understanding how to use the moviepass card and getting shitty with theater owners for not handing them tickets after they've checked in on the app. No wonder theaters are annoyed with it and have signs up everywhere explaining how to use it.
