I play poker pretty often and usually make money at it. We've all had horrible horrible beats, so tell me your worst. This ones not HORRIBLE but it just happened so I'm pretty steamed about it.

Was playing with some people I usually do, .25/.50 cent cash game. I buy in for sixteen bucks cause its all I have left for the next two weeks. Playing my usual tight aggressive game for about 2 hours, I'm up to about 45 dollars. Down to 5 heads. I'm in the big blind, and get pocket aces.

First man on my left raises to 4 total. Man on his left calls. 2 folds to me, I raise 6 on top, makin it ten to go. First man on my left calls, second folds. I didn't even wanna see a flop, and this player is decent and has slightly more chips than me. Flop comes jack nine three rainbow. I'm first to act, bet out ten, he calls. Turn comes a ten and I check thinking maybe theres some possibility he's turned two pair or even a straight. He bets out ten, and I call. Rivers a rag. I move all in and he waits for about 30 seconds before calling. At this point I know I'm fucked.

He flips over pocket jacks, his trips beating my pocket aces.

Don't know how I'm gonna smoke for the next two weeks.

Harsh.

I one time had pocket kings, flop turned a third king with a 3 and 5 , turn was something useless, and then the river was a 7 (3, 5, and 7 might have been on suit, i don't remember to well)

It was early in the game, and i wasn't aggresive, thinking to just pick up a few chips and get a nice chip lead early, so i checked nice and smooth, called everything thrown out there, and made sure the pot was nice and fat

Justin had the straight, and wound up with that pot. it was... irritating.

Wait, you're mad because you went all in on pocket aces after the river and got beat? I dunno, maybe if you went all in before the flop and got beat I could see what you mean, but if someone's still betting that high into the hand, it sounds like you were pretty warned that you were about to get beat.

pocket aces are so dangerous. i hate them. you played that well until the turn and river. when he bet out that ten you should have known you were probably beat. usually when i hit pocket rockets someone turns a straight on me and i get fucked. fuck pocket aces

No. He didn't. At all.

I think we should set up a private Skachilles game on Pokerstars or something. I would love to play with y'all.

you were pretty much screaming "I HAVE POCKET ROCKETS!" and the fact that he bet after the turn was suspicious enough to say he at least had high pair

No. He didn't. At all.

Yes he did. Raising to 10 PF was a fine move.

Maybe betting a bit more on the flop would've been a good idea, but I don't think betting 10 was a huge mistake. He's got to make it look like a continuation bet from AK or something similar.

But yeah, the play on turn and river was awful.

I'm pretty satisfied with my playing of the hand, up until the turn. And Voox- You must be REALLY good if you can criticize my poker skills with the telling of this one hand. Plus you didn't share a bad beat story of your own, so I can only imagine that you never get sucked out on...A marvelous feat. You can't say I made the absolute wrong play because you don't know the environment of the game. Sometimes your just gonna lose (I'm talking to myself at this point). I've played online poker, it's just not the same. Maybe if I ever get some money I'll throw a few bucks onto my account and we can play a game.

I probably should've known to get outta the hand on the turn, but what can I say, I was pot committed.
And Fetus, I don't think betting more on the flop would've helped. With that flop I can only really put him on A-J or pocket J's, he's not gonna be in there with a small pocket pair. Either way he's calling. If I had bet more he either would've pushed right away, and I would've called, or he would've called and the same thing would've happened.

So seriously this wasn't to ask all y'all experts on how to hone my skills. I wanna hear some fucking stories that involve runner runner here.

One time in a poker tournament, I had pocket 10's (Was second chip leader at final table of about 7 people)...probably a 50 person tournament. Anyways the guy next to me, who was the chip leader, called my pre-flop raise. Flop came 10, 3, 5. So I checked, and he rasied, and I smooth called. Turn came a Queen. This time I checked again, and he raised, and I re-raised, to which he went all-in. So I obviously called with trip 10's. He had Q 10....Two Pair. River came another Queen. He hit runner-runner to beat me, and take an overwheming chip lead and put me out.

lol-- I'm not criticizing your poker skills. I'm analyzing your hand. And-- from the information given, you flat out got outplayed. There was no bad beat there.

Also: The reason I don't share bad beat stories (ever) is because no respectable player I know does. It's part of the game. If you wanna cry about it, it's time to find another game. Of course I've gotten sucked out on... I also remember the times I've sucked out on other people. It happens. Big deal.

Also: I didn't say before you made the absolutely wrong play-- but... well... with that river bet-- ya kinda did.

Re: Online poker-- I agree, it's not the same. I excel way more in live games. But-- I also can't play heads up in a casino, (or even make it to a casino as often as I'd like,) so-- it has it's ups and downs.

Honestly-- I can't even remember my bad beats anymore. I know the worst thing that's happened to be was losing about $1,000 in a night. That was a bad night. I've also made $1,500 in one sitting, so like I said-- nature of the beast. C'est la vie.

I do agree that my play on the turn and river was balls. But I still don't think I got outplayed..I was reppin' aces or kings preflop and he called with jacks and hit. Even if I never hit an ace, if a jack didn't fall I would've taken all of his money.

I understand what you mean about how bad beats are a part of the game, but I don't take the game so serious that I'll adhere to not bitchin'. I was just pretty sore about it last night cause it had just happened, and like I mentioned, I now don't know how I'll continue my drug habit til the next paycheck.

kylskafesto-That's pretty rough.

i was in a tournament a few weeks ago, and it was down to 6 players. after a hand that i wont go into, but included a bad break for me, i was small stack, and since im not that serious of a poker player and this wasnt at all a serious tournament, i decided to be risky.

i had ace queen in my hand. everybody was in the hand, and the kid directly to my right raised a considerable amount. i figured what the hell, ill go all in. that got the other 4 guys out, but this last guy stayed in. we turned our cards over, and he had a 10 4 offsuit.

the flop comes out, its 3, ace, queen. i figure im in great shape, but im sure everybody can see where this is going. the next two cards, of course, were a king and a jack. the guy was such a shitty player that he didnt even realize he had a straight and was trying to push the pile of chips over to me until the dealer corrected him, and i was out of the tournament.

My problem with Hold 'Em is that I underrate two pair. A lot of times I see people win with jack shit, but for some reason I always assume "If they're calling my pair, they've definitely got something higher. Fuck that, I fold!"

Fuck Hold 'Em. Razz is where it's at. wink.gif I was playing and I had 532 then hit an A, then a 5 came out, then a 2, then another A. Guy beat me with a Q low.

..... that didn't really happen. (Well, it might have for all I remember, but probably not.)

I don't like playing limit either, and actually when we ever do decide to play a stud game we say fuckit and just play no limit. Works fine.
