Well, it depends. Do you have health insurance already (and is it through your parents)?

EDIT: At Rorschach.

If your parents have insurance you can be covered under their plan until age 26. And no one can be denied insurance due to preexisting conditions, or have their rates hiked because they get sick.

Cost controls for prescription meds is another major point, as is limits on health care costs and an open, competitive market for insurance.

" My heart is breaking. I can not bear to watch the Congressional proceedings and witness the destruction of our country. It is just too awful and it's to terrifying what the future may hold for America. I keep choking back tears as the Democrats act like lunatics, people possessed by the compulsion to take our country to ruin."
-My Aunt's status right after.

"Make sure that you secure all your breakable items, bubble wrap the crystal, etc. Sometime tomorrow there will be a HUGE earthquake as the Founding Fathers collectively roll-over in their graves...."

And now:
"Dear Satan: Better make some more room!"

Also, confused: Section 221 pretty clearly makes a public option. Guess that got snuck through.

This'll be interesting. Hope it ends up well!

Oh, and rush limbaugh said he would move out of the US if this passes. That in and of itself should be enough reason to celebrate.

In that case, the bill will "force" you to get some by offering tax exemptions and similar incentives. You could also buy into an exchange, which basically just pools together a bunch of low income and/or high-risk individuals in order to bring costs down. It really depends on your income level and general situation, so I can't tell you what you specifically will have to do.
Both of these aren't in effect until 2014 though, if I remember correctly, so no worries right now.

What's effective immediately are general consumer protections and the removal of discrimination against preexisting conditions, stuff like that.

EDIT: At Rorschach again. Hopefully obvious at this point.

I don't believe that is how it works.
I think it is primarily tax credits based on your current situation when it comes into effect, although to be honest I don't know the specifics. Would be cool if someone could shed some light on this, if I have it wrong.

To the second question, I believe you can, yes. That's one of the provisions effective immediately I believe, so look into it when you're able to.
