Alt Hugo is pretty badass.

And WTF @ the end...this alternate universe is finally picking up, it's ticking me off how slow the main one is.

After next week, we get a week off. Because apparently, ABC is showing episode 16 on May 18th, and the finale Sunday afterwards, 17/18 on May 23rd. Pretty shitty scheduling, IMO

Sucks about the one-week hiatus.

This episode was ok... really glad to see Hurley back with Libby. I was really hoping and expecting they'd fully explain Hurley's ability to talk with dead people. I mean, everything else in the show that's been answered has some sort of scientific explanation, even if extremely farfetched.

I kinda figured thats what the whispers were. Hell most people did.
so what if libby was crazy in the original timeline because of this alternate timeline?

Surely she was crazy in the original universe before the alternate one was created. Not that I want to get into a discussion about the rules of time travel and causality.

I'm liking alternate Desmond. I wonder if alternate and main are working together in some fashion (while probably not being aware of it).

Dunno. Hurley could talk to dead people when he was off the island, too.

Good episode. Could have done without the whole Locke getting drilled at the end thing. Kind of a buzz kill.

Liking the episode so far, but...

a) the Hugo-comically-villainesque-shifty-eyes thing is getting old. It's the same sort of over-acting tic we saw when Desmond's lip twitched right before he went crazy on Widmore last episode.
b ) Why do they have to explode the plane? If they were really trying to get rid of it... couldn't they just hit the fuel tank with rocks? Does it really have to be dynamite?

edit: oh god jack's monologuing and it's the lamest thing ever.

QUOTE
Damon Lindelof: And all of this was obviously, first and foremost, the idea that Libby’s got this mysterious backstory, of which we’ve only given you the tip of the iceberg. We know she’s spent some time in the mental institution with Hurley, and the idea of killing her before she had an opportunity to explain how she got there… we have a master plan for how we’re going to tell that story, but it’s all posthumous. You’ll start to learn Libby’s moves through flashbacks over the course of the next season. So we’re not done with Cynthia, but Libby is dead.

from a 2006 interview. and all this time i thought they were just making it up as they go along.

In one of their hundreds of podcasts/interviews/discussions, I remember them saying they penned the overlying entire LOST mythology during the first and second seasons of the show. So they've had the whole basic story under wraps for years and years.

Edit: Of course, a lot of things do affect what is actually produced; eg. the actor who played Mr. Eko was killed off after just over one season because he did not want to live in Hawaii and act on the show anymore. His original storyline was supposed to arc three seasons. On the other hand, Michael Emerson (Ben Linus) was supposed to be a four-episode arc, but everyone was so impressed with his acting he turned into a major character.

i know everyone loves ben but he really seems to be on the sidelines this season. maybe thats because he wasnt originally supposed to have made it this far into the storyline.

Yeah, but who knows. It could be a scheduling thing-- I've noticed a couple episodes now where he literally only appears in brief cutaways-- things they clearly shot at a completely different time than the rest of the episode. Or it could be a money thing (something which is clearly affecting the storyline). They don't want to pay the actor his ridiculously large quote per episode (which he and the rest of the actors totally deserve) so they cut down on the storylines. Note how Matthew Fox and others are completely absent in like half the episodes.
