Just played through the DOOM reboot now that I'm living with my parents again and can afford to waste time and regress. It's so fast-paced and exciting, first time I've played through an entire campaign without getting bored and having to force myself through in years.

Friday the 13th the Game is free this month on PS4 and its outright hilarious. Its like Dead By Daylight which was free a couple months, where a slasher villain guy chases down and kills a bunch of player survivors who have to escape. The kicker is that this game has voice chat, even between camp counselors and Jason when nearby each other, and the interactions I've had have been complete and total riots.

There's this tool called NES Maker that makes creating your own NES games pretty easy. It's not like Super Mario Maker easy, but things like gravity, scrolling, and hit detection are pretty much preset (with values that you can mess with if you choose to). I watched a 2 hour tutorial like 3 times and was able to make a 2D platformer that was three screens long with pass through blocks, fireballs, slime enemies, and prize boxes. My character was able to run, jump, variably jump based on button press length and acceleration. Anyhow, the tool was like $30. I highly recommend. You can make top-down games like Zelda and presumably much more, but I've just started to get into this.

edit: and this might be obvious, but you can actually flash the NES game file you create to an actual NES cartridge and play it on a real Nintendo. That's pretty cool, right?

Has that already been released? I saw the kickstarter before and I was interested. Since I've got my NES Mini hacked I can put roms on it, and I've definitely wondered what it would be like if I could build my own game and put it on there. I mean, I'm assuming NES Maker exports basic roms, so I don't see get it wouldn't work.

Hell, if you can post a rom of what you made I could even test it out. If it works I'm definitely buying it

I've been playing a bunch of SSX Tricky/SSX3 lately and forgot how fun of a game it could be. Lately what really pulled me in was how the music was so well edited--The game is about snowboarding and making HUUUUUUUGE fantastical jumps with wild tricks, but in those few seconds you're in air the music drops most of its sound, but not all of it, kinda taking in that ambiance.

Basically, its been making me wanna try to program another game. Like, a sidescroller where you punch a bunch of different baddies. But the music would consist of a drum track, a bass track, and a treble track, that mutes certain tracks when you engage an enemy, and unmutes when the fighr concludes. The idea being some enemies would just have a drum track, some enemies would have a bass/drum track, etc., kinda reminiscent of Earthbound and enemies having their own music/background. The central concept being, well, a game sure, but the interest or entertainment comes from being able to interact with the music. In my head, it all sounds a lot easier of done as an NES game, which is why the NES Maker has my interest

Quadrapost

Any of you playing RDR2? I'm near the end of the story (chapter 6 though I know there's 2 epilogue) and it took a bit of time to get good, but right around the end of chapter 3 this story has gotten super intense

Red Dead Redemption 2 is great. I'm playing it without fast travel so I'm at like 49% (just got ousted from Saint Denis). Also, fuck the O'Driscoll's.

I'm on chapter 6 of my second play through. If you're looking to fast travel though it is a pretty well done system in the game: Improve yoir camp and from there you can fast travel just about anywhere. Then the stagecoaches bring you from town to town, and you can buy train tickets to go from station to station. I've been doing this a lot more the 2nd playthrough

I setup my 2nd PS4 finally (From ms pacman in December) and bought Overwatch and now me and my girlfriend play together in the same room and I think my relationship is reaching new heights. Its pretty great too, since she doesn't play a whole lotta games but she managed to adapt to my skill level super quick. I should totally become an E-sports coach.

Hey, does anybody else have a Switch?

I bought my first "current gen" gaming system in like, 10 years. I'm kind of in love with it. Playing mad Splatoon, and Tetris 99. I've got Smash, Zelda and Starlink too and my biggest struggle is that I don't have enough time to play all my super dope games.

I've been going back and forth on whether or not to get a switch. it all seems really cool and I really want to play Breath of the Wild... but I'm not sure it's worth that much basically just for botw. Yeah, there's other games there I'd play and enjoy, but I already have an xbox one and there's other games on that I'd play and enjoy too. The portability seems cool, but not THAT cool...

I've also been considering a ps4 so I can play spider-man. The weird thing is, the playstation has more games that overlap with xbox... but on the whole, I think there's more playstation exclusives I'd be interested in playing than nintendo ones.

I'll probably end up getting neither, but I've been tossing the idea around for a while of picking up one or the other.

Spider-man is "Better than Spiderman 2" good. You know the Spiderman 2 I'm talking about, with Toby Mcguire, they made websligning even funner. Storyline is okay, you're in it for webslinging.

What you may have overlooked is PS4's God of War--Its phenomenal. I did not enjoy the original GOW series and this one was honestly nothing short of impressive, and realistically the storytelling mechanics are just on a higher tier than Spiderman.

Breath of the Wild, I have so little to say...My brother bought it, played for hours, I've watched it and there is just 0 interest. Zelda games just can't draw me in anymore, BUT!!! Switch is getting a Link's Awakening remake, which I'm super down for.

Oh, I didn't overlook God of War. If I buy a playstation, it's for spider-man, but one of the reasons I'm considering it over a switch is because I'd also get to play God of War. And the last of us. And the final fantasy series (although a lot of that is on android or xbox). And the kingdom hearts series.

Whereas with a switch I'd get Zelda and.... mario odyssey I guess? Smash Bros probably. But those are both... eh. I'm sure they're good, but they're not big drives for me.

Another factor is ps4's go for around $200 used, and switches haven't really dropped in value used at all, so i'd probably be looking at $300 new. i don't really care about getting the ps4 pro or an extra large hard drive or anything.

but anyway, i've been kicking the idea around but i probably won't end up getting either. Like I said, I already have an xbox and realistically, while I do want to play spider-man and/or breath of the wild, I have enough games on xbox to keep me entertained.

I played KH3, I finished maybe 4 or 5 Disney worlds before I found out I'm too old to care about this story. And thats not my fault, I was all about KH1/2 but they just took so goddamn long for this that I've just lost interest. All the wacky team commands just feel intrusive on combat and maybe if I were 18 years younger I'd be down.

I want an Xbox but can you really wareant paying for ANOTHER online service? Nintendo is nice and cheap at least but a ps4 and an xbone would hurt with the extra bills.

And this, fellow readers, is why I think Fortnite is one of the best games thia decade, because its revolutionizing cross-platform play. I can literally squad up with a ps4, Xbox, pc and switch player all at once. Have you played Apex Legends? Its a decent f2p battle royale game, but if they could develop cross-platform it could be taken VERY seriously.

Honestly, I'm like, fucking in love with my switch, but I totally get that it isn't for everyone.

I almost got a PS4 because I really, really wanted to play Spider-Man and Red Dead, but ultimately the portability of the switch just made it work really well with my lifestyle.

When I get home from work, I like to sit on the couch with Brit, watch dumb TV and casually play video games. She doesn't want to watch me play games, so for the past like 3 years, I've basically played hearthstone exclusively.

Now, I get home from work, play on my TV for an hour, she gets home, I hit "pause", we eat dinner, then I grab it off the base, stick the joycons on the side, and pick up right where I left off. The battery lasts right until I'm ready for bed, I plug it in and repeat.

As far as games, I'm like, wildly obsessed with Splatoon 2. It's such a fun, posi and immersive shooter. I seriously can't stop playing it.

As a result, I'm like, bummed that I can't simultaneously play that and Zelda, because that game also freaking rules. I also think I still have like 10 characters to unlock in smash... because, again, Splatoon man.

I seriously feel like if I never got another game, it would still be totally worth it.

Then again, I haven't owned real video games in like a decade, so I'm pretty biased. I basically carry the eager authority of a 6 year old.

I'm like 170 hours into Assassin's Creed Odyssey and can't stop. This game is too damn big. But also way way better than anything else in the series.
