i finally managed to get starcraft installed on my crappy laptop, so i tore through that campaign in about a week. That game holds up incredibly well, they really got it right the first time and the graphics are kind of timeless.

I also saw the first part of the campaign for starcraft 2 was free, so i'm playing through that now. it's way more campaign-y than i'd have expected (I'm not bothering with the multiplayer), but it feels way more dated than the original starcraft did

also speaking of free games, even though i absolutely hate the free to play model, and i absolutely hate mmorpg's, somehow i found myself getting sucked into Neverwinter and I'm kind of having a ton of fun playing it. Path of Exile and other similar games didn't really do it for me but I'm digging this.

Still, even playing it now I just think how much better it could have been with a normal price tag as a regular game, instead of a half-assed f2p game. Why does every f2p game feel like they just stopped halfway through development and said "The numbers mechanics work, so you can go ahead and pay us tons of money to make the numbers go higher"? The UI, design, QA and everything is just crappy and amateurish as all hell.

Like I said, I'm having fun anyway though.

To keep on my rant, I don't understand why more games don't do cosmetic only mtx/dlc. I might actually pay for some now and then, if I felt like I got a full game otherwise. What stops me from engaging in any of the mtx of most f2p games is I now that's an intentionally designed rabbit hole that you drop yourself into. You spend $20 on an upgraded weapon, and then you have to spend another $20 to upgrade it even more, than $30 to pair it with some armor, than $50 to upgrade your magic abilities to match it. There's no point in trying to do that unless you're ready to spend hundreds or thousands. On the other hand, if I could just spend five bucks and get something that looks cool, then go back to playing the full game, I'd do that.

QUOTE (?Rorshach? @ Aug 26 2018, 09:37 PM) *
You guys, I've said for a while that Jeff always writes records that don't really click with me right now, but are super important to me in like a year.

Now I'm realizing I like but don't love Craig of the Creek, but that's because I'm on the brink of having kids.

Weird.

wait is brit pregnant?

Finished Disenchantment. It picks up a little bit towards the end, which is weird because at the same time, plot is obviously not Matt Groening's strong suit and there's a lot of contrivances and plot holes and predictable-ness, but at the same time when it picks up pace it's the only time it really feels like the show actually has anything to say or any characters get developed. Somehow 75% of the show just feels like filler

I stand by what I said earlier, the show is a little bumpy and these characters are just inherently not a good match for leading the show together, so it'll be stunted until/unless some new characters show up to fill out the cast. But I enjoyed it and I'll keep watching. "Season 2" (or Season 1 Part 2) has already been ordered, so it's definitely coming. Be interesting to see if they get a third (second?) season.

Ps if there are jobs available that she just doesn't want, then absolutely do not ever do this under any circumstances. She doesn't want help, she wants to mooch. If she just needed help she'd take any job she can get instead of taking advantage of her friends.

Unless it's your super best friend of all time that you would trust your life to, don't do it. Find another way to help. I've heard so many horror stories of that going bad.

And keep in mind, I don't know where you are at the moment but chances are good that if you let someone stay that long, they're your tenant now and they don't have to leave until you go through the legal eviction process, which can take months or even years.

If you absolutely definitely are set on letting this person live with you, write out the terms of the stay at the beginning. You have to basically act like their landlord, because you are. The rent is $0 (presumably), but you still need to write out exactly how long they're staying, what they are entitled to and what they aren't entitled to. What areas they have access to, what food, cookware, amenities, bathrooms they have access to, how you're handling utilities, everything.

I know that seems like a lot for a friend, but it's really super necessary. If they're a friend, they'll understand, and if they balk, then they didn't really need your help anyway and they can go stay somewhere else. You ESPECIALLY want to do it if you're a friend, because these disagreements end friendships. Having it written out before hand could save your friendship.

But honestly I just wouldn't do it unless it's a really good friend. Find another way. Find a job for them or something. It's really not like letting someone stay at your place for a week or something, you're their landlord now and you have to take that seriously. They will have a ton of power over you and desperate people often act out of character.

I definitely would have preferred Netflix just order some Futurama episodes. That show was never as consistently good as its first run but it was still really entertaining and they were still making some great episodes all the way through

Well we all know he did it, but I'm not going to stick by whatever he puts out because of the Simpsons. I will because of Futurama.

I mentioned it in the other thread but I'm 3 or 4 episodes in and I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not sure it has a lot of staying power (the main characters don't have good chemistry and are kind of one-dimensional) and the jokes fall flat more often than they hit.

It's not awful, it's amusing enough but I feel like mostly I'm just watching it because it's from "the guy who made futurama," not because I actually enjoy it. Still, I'm only a couple episodes in and a lot of great shows take time to develop. So I'll keep watching for a while, it's not like it's a really bad show.

I can't think of any other band that manages to grow its fanbase so much despite releasing only like one album a decade

I thought it felt familiar, like it almost wanted to go a ska kind of sound but then backed away and toned it down

I don't know that streetlight is what it's reminiscent of though

anyway i only watched the first episode. I was expecting the pilot to be a little rocky, because it's a pilot... but I really hope it gets better

Does anyone else have moviepass? It's been completely imploding. I don't know if they're even gonna make it through the week. I don't use it enough to be affected so far, but if I can't go see a good movie tomorrow without paying extra I'm canceling.

QUOTE (dumbducky @ Jun 30 2018, 01:53 PM) *
On a related note, my gf and I were watching Shameless and there's a scene where they have sex floating in the middle of a pool. I argued that the mechanics of sex probably aren't going to work well in a free-floating environment, but she thought it would work out ok. Thoughts?

No problem, just gotta use some muscles to move things along. Can't imagine it would be nearly as fun/exciting, but I guess as a novelty thing it might be worth a go.

I'm pretty sure the treadmill was from before even I joined, so we're talking... two? Three board iterations ago. We gotta go way back and ask the really old people what the deal was with it.

Also possible: I was around for it and have completely forgotten it

I listened to the one with jack black in the video and it seemed like a good background tune, but I can't see myself ever really putting it on to actually listen to it

haven't heard the rest of the album
