I watched about half the first episode but didn't dig it.

Does it get better/different or is it just not gonna be for me? I keep seeing it be recommended, and specifically recommended for someone who's into the things I'm into.

It's one of my favorite shows on TV.

I think it loses people because at first shrug, its a "basic white-girl show", and sort of comes off as "the gilmore girls but with singing". As it goes on though, you realize that its really a satire of that sort of show.

It's sort of a "rom com" in the same sense that Community was a "sitcom".

All the stuff that makes you roll your eyes at and go "that's a super unhealthy representation of relationships", eventually gets addressed, and it gets pretty dark as they explore the impact of that kind of shit on people (changing themselves to try and be more compatible with their significant others, setting relationship conditions and ultimatums, obsessing over their partner at the expense of their own well being, etc).

It also seriously becomes one of the best representations of mental illness I've ever seen on television.

So that said, I think it rules, but also...

In other news, I've become more of a fan of Black Mirror since they started to move away from having every episode be a depressing lecture about the evils of society.

...I love the uber dark/depressing side of Black Mirror.

It's what made it one of my favorite shows. I haven't caught up on the newest season yet, but I keep hearing it's a little more optimistic, and that has me sort of put off.

Also, we FINALLY finished the Sopranos (overall, eh)

...literally my favorite show in the history of television.

So...maybe we just have different tastes?

I get $300 cash flow on 1 and about $500 on the other. $800 extra a month sounds great! But if one thing breaks, or it goes vacant for a month or two, your profits are gone.

Thain can correct me if I'm wrong, but I read this to mean "profit".

As in, (hypothetically) like a $1,200 mortgage, that he rents for $1,500 a month, turning him a $300 a month profit, while the house also pays for itself.

If I'm wrong about that, then yeah, that's pretty nuts. I live in the burbs and pay several times that for half a house.

So I mean, at $10/mo it's not the end of the world, but it's a little disappointing that it's already not working how it's supposed to, and from all the troubles others are having, it's really not going to be worth much if it's a random chance on whether it'll work or not when I get to the theater. If you see a movie every week either way, then it's probably worth it anyway, but I'd be specifically going because I have the moviepass, so having to pay out of pocket would suck.

If for any reason your card doesn't work, they'll refund you the cost of your tickets if you have to pay out of pocket (just remember that it's only standard screenings, no 3D/imax/etc).

Sorry to sound lik such a shill for moviepass...I've just been really stoked on that company these past few months.

I actually vaguely remember you posting this, and meaning to comment that the same thing happened to me for a bit, but then fixed itself.

This should be how it works. They bill you for your first month immediately, but you don't get billed for your second month until a month after you first activate the card.

QUOTE (sonofaresiii @ Dec 26 2017, 12:38 PM) *
I hope it works from here on out, but I'm not super optimistic, especially with everyone saying support is so backlogged. One of the major advertising points when I signed up was that you could get support at any time and have your problem immediately fixed.

I'll say that it took me a few weeks to get my card, even though Brit got hers right away (and we signed her up after we signed me up), and in that time I never got a reply to any of my customer support requests.

So that was pretty bogus. Their customer support is definitely dog shit.

That said, we haven't had an issue since, and go to movies like twice a week. We're like, head over heels for it.

QUOTE (sonofaresiii @ Dec 26 2017, 12:38 PM) *
Also I've been lol'ing at all the stories of people not understanding how to use the moviepass card and getting shitty with theater owners for not handing them tickets after they've checked in on the app. No wonder theaters are annoyed with it and have signs up everywhere explaining how to use it.

For what its worth, our theater is super accommodating and geeked on moviepass. Literally every time we go, their cashier is like "isn't this awesome?!"

got a moviepass subscription.

didn't work.

apparently since they dropped to $10/mo they got massive amounts of subscriptions and can't handle it and the whole thing is plagued. i think it's working now though but haven't tried it yet and i guess support is like two months behind on answering any complaints.

What's the issue? I've had mine for 3 or 4 months now and use it at least twice a week. It rules.

Haven't seen any Star Wars movies other than Episode 1 and Episode 4. Are they any good?

Honestly, I don't even know.

Empire Strikes Back is my all time favorite movie, but I've realized lately that I can't think about it objectively. I can't separate the love and nostalgia I have for it, from the movie on its own merits.

That said, I think it's great?

Dudes super good at trumpet. I played him a few streetlight songs and he dug it, so I figured that was probably their most technically sophisticated record.

Oh, I completely forgot to mention that probably my favorite show on TV right now is Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

It's marketing is so far off brand, and its title sort of sucks, so I don't think its seeing a quarter of the viewership that it should, but it's seriously one of the best portrayals of mental illness in any TV show or movie I've ever seen. It's also hilarious, super well written and has a ton of heart.

Brit and I talk all the time about how pissed we are that we can't get any of our friends to watch it, but its seriously the show that we look forward to the most. When Hulu stopped showing new episodes, we started paying for cable pretty much just so we could watch it.

Nathan For You is the funniest show on television (though the new season just wrapped)

I've never really looked forward to Last Man on Earth, but it always makes me laugh

Future Man was somewhere between "watchable" and "pretty good"

Speechless is pretty great.

Broad City is consistently good.

Veep, Silicon Valley and John Oliver are all off right now, but stand as my favorite comedies.

Oh, so I don't care about spoilers since I'm probably not seeing this movie for like six months and don't care that much anyway--

Green Lantern, yes or no?

Direct answer to your question,
There's a lantern cameo.

More specific answer,
Not like, a specific lantern, some ancient lantern in an ancient war with Stepenwolf.

I think the DCU could benefit by capitalizing on the multiverse.

They can recast anyone they want ("oh man...this earth's batman looks just like Josh Brolin and Lex Luthor is Bryan Cranston!"), they can change any characterizations they want ("this Batman has gadgets and martial arts training instead of assault rifles and his Joker isn't a juggalo!"), and they don't ever have to admit that what they had been doing sucked eggs.

But yeah, this just isn't working. Snyder can make some awesome looking stuff, but he has zero grasp of story or characterization. I'm really not that dude that's like "THAT'S NOT WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN THE COMIC THO!!!!", but I think if the point of your film is to bring beloved characters to life, you should probably maintain the things that made them beloved.

I was just telling Brit last night, that Batman is one of my all time favorite characters in anything...but I'm literally never rooting for Batfleck. Every single scene he's in is inane at best and dickish at worst. Dude isn't Batman.

Likewise, Superman is so dark and moody. That's like, the opposite of everything anyone has ever loved about that character. There's literally one line in all of JL that made me smile, and it's because its dumb and hokey and corny...and basically everything Superman should be. It's also obvious that all of that was done completely by accident.

It's EXTREMELY obvious what Whedon reshot...like, I think the incongruity makes it worse than if he hadn't touched it.

Super brutal/grim/violent fight scene...then cut to a shot of just Batman, laying on a nondescript concrete floor, with a quippy one liner.

It sucked.

We ended up seeing Les Mis. It's my favorite show and it ruled on Broadway, plus the tickets weren't terrible.

We also went to the pizza shop from Spider Man 2 and spent our day time reading in Central Park. It was a rad trip.

In short, "nope"

I'm by no means an expert, but I've been pretty into emulators for the past few years and I know Xbox is like, the final frontier. I guess that low interest and some crazy threats from Microsoft has kept anyone from trying to develop anything, though poking around now, it appears some folks are staying to try?

That said, if you go on eBay, you can find an Xbox for like 40 bucks (or at least you used to be able to). Then you can crazy easily burn any game under the sun for it.
