So I guess this could easily be a Google search, but what is the logical fallacy that has to do with people reasoning that something has to be a certain way just because that's historically how it has been. As a real life example, "We can't have two days off while we're deployed because that's how it has always been."

fake edit: It's appeal to tradition.

I don't know if I mentioned this already, but it just popped in my head. At my old duty station there was a room that had a white board hanging on the door outside. It said "Ain't no party like a..." and then had a picture of a bunch of lemons raging.

For Lent I decided to give up social media. I categorized Reddit as part of that.

I'm not sure what to do with my time now.

Are you catholic or just reappropriating lent? And I kind of want to do lent as well, but since it started this morning I can't stop doing any of the things I already do.

I'm a bad Catholic, as in the last time I went to Mass aside from this morning was Christmas. I'm not even confirmed, and I went to a Catholic school.

Lent is the one tradition I've always kept though. I even did the fast today. I think it's a good practice even from a secular perspective if your sacrifice is oriented towards improving yourself. I think the case could be made that it's beneficial even if it isn't aimed at self-improvement. But if you're some Protestant denomination and you do it because you aren't aware it's a Catholic practice, I think you're dumb. It might be my Catholic bias, but the idea of faith being sufficient for salvation is absurd and also ultimately a rejection of the ideas behind Lent.

lol. This is why catholics turn worship into battered woman syndrome. You all have turn your relationship into a master slave, instead of a father son one. My pastor, UCC, always encourage us to pick something up to better ourselves during lent, instead of sacrificing something trivial. She would encourage us to give to the poor, volunteer at an animal or homeless shelter, or hell even just read the good book on a daily basis since like no one in the congregation did. you should be less focused on hurting yourself and making yourself miserable, and instead worry about making the world a better place.

granted this is all kind of meaningless as I am a firm believer in that social media is a bad thing and only use this and reddit anymore.
