i'll be out there this sunday (3/14), returning on the following wednesday (3/17), then i will be heading back out on the following friday (3/26) through that monday (3/29).

bad religion is on their 30th anniversary tour and is playing two nights at house of blues vegas. just learned that adolescents are opening the first night and tsol is opening the second. couldn't possibly get anymore stoked, so that's why i created a new thread instead of posting in random thoughts.

ya dude.

don't take cabs because they're stupid and overpriced and the drivers intentionally take the long way 95% of the time. from the airport to the strip is about a 45 minute to an hour walk, and it dominates the $20 cab ride. on the way, there's a gas station and that gas station is the cheapest liquor that you'll find in vegas. no need to bother stocking up, though, because you can still find some decent deals on the strip. i would, however, grab a couple brews for the walk into town.

as you first get to the strip, you'll be right in front of hooters and mgm. hit up hooters for some $3 blackjack if that's your thang, then head upstairs and cross the street (there's walkways over most of the streets) and hit up mgm's jello shot bar, then head downstairs at mgm to look at the lions. that's how my first couple hours in vegas usually go down.

misc protips:
if possible, bring a phone with google maps. walking and public transportation directions are A+
walk everywhere. don't even act like you don't have time to kill
circus circus is a hell hole
don't take the "free vip passes" to any of the clubs that random homeless people will offer you. they demand a tip from you, so you give them one thinking you got a great deal, then you read the fine print and find that it only works for ladies on weeknights.
public intoxication is 10000000% legal. drink whatever you want where ever you want. indoor smoking is A-OK in most places as well.

hotels:
use hotels.com and sort by cheapest. you'd be surprised how much cheaper a decent hotel is than a motel 6. once you find the place you want to stay on hotels.com, check the hotel's website and see if it's cheaper to book directly through them.
hooters and imperial palace are both on the strip (hooters isn't technically, but it's like a 10 foot walk) and you can usually scoop them up for $20-30 a night.
book in advance

flight:
compare cheapair.com's cheapest roundtrip flight to southwest.com's. that'll get ya the cheapest.

food:
ellis island has a $6 steak dinner: 12oz steak, 16oz fresh-brewed beer, salad, green beans, and a baked potato. it's a couple blocks off of the strip from the flamingo.
hard rock has a $7.77 steak and lobster dinner. it's not on the menu, so ask for it. there's a bus that runs from mgm to hard rock every few minutes that's free.
wild wild west has a $1.99 breakfast that's pretty good.
golden gate has $.99 shrimp cocktails that are awesome. tropicana has $.99 shrimp cocktails too, but they are trash.

booze:
there's a 7-11 down past the venetian/wynn/encore/whatever. they have $2 tall cans. if you want bang for your buck, drink tall cans of camo: 9-12% abv.
if you want one of those big daiquiris that you see people drinking, get it from fat tuesday. i know of two, but can only remember the one in the forum shops at caesars palace. but extra shots are only a buck after you buy a yard glass, so stock up if you want em. your options are 151, captain morgan, or everclear, i believe. bang for the buck is in everclear. i recommend taking the shots instead of mixing them with your drink for maximum tastiness. also, check some of the local paper things (there are newspaper stands everywhere) for bogo coupz
mgm's jello shot bar is $2/shot, i believe. cash only.

free stuff:
get a players card at hooters for $100 free slot play and a $15 match play... i think that's still around.
lions exhibit at mgm grand
porno trading cards galore. you'll see.

that's all i can think of offhand right now, but if you've got questions, i probably have answers. unless it's regarding clubs, cuz that's not my thang.

dude seriously, vegas would be the best place ever for a skachilles meet up. i would love to go, but dont know that i really have any friends who would be down.

i know calling something a "skachilles meet up" is the sure fire way to make sure it never ever happens, but for real...if any of you ever want to go to vegas, im in.

I will go with you next summer if you purchase drinks for me. Not that that's much initiative, but maybe others will decide to join.

vegas is mega dopesick.

flight prices vary based on your distance, but expenses for a typical vegas trip for me are:
$180 for flight (round trip)
$30 a night at a hotel
$15-30 a night on booze
$20 a day for food
$200 a trip to gamble with. sit at $3 blackjack for maximum gaming fun.

out of these, i could cut down on the booze prices by drinking super bummy and could definitely cut out the gambling altogether, but it is fun. add $15-50 for concerts if any good ones are happening while you're out there because the vegas crowd is awesome.

when you do go out there, you should really reconsider the going over a weekend thing as it makes everything substantially more expensive. it doesn't affect the flight price all that much if you book way in advance, but the hotel price will skyrocket. as an example, hooters is at most $30 a night on weekdays except friday. on the weekends, it's $75 at the lowest. that was the biggest issue with this bad religion trip, but my buddy had fortunately racked up enough points at gold coast to get us a free room on friday and saturday, then we're staying at excalibur on sunday night for $35. this hotel guideline is handy to keep in mind on any vacation.

edit: and YO if you really wanna skimp on the hotel, you can still be close to the strip. i saw americana inn for $12 a night last month... it's like a half hour walk from the strip. never stay at the stratosphere because they don't put you in the tower and you're millions of miles from anything and don't stay at circus circus because it's a shithole shithole.

vivaaaa lass veggassss

i really cant even tell you how bad i want to go.

maybe ill try to make this happen this winter. i should be working in a school district (even if its just as a sub) by then, so maybe over christmas break. chill with my family for the holiday, then spend the week days in vegas.

maybe sooner though. i dont know if i can wait.

my vegas cravings tend to lie dormant until someone talks about some super awesome vegas time they have coming up and then they come rushing back in.

maybe this is a really dumb question, but when you say public intoxication is legal...does this mean i can drink in the streets? like...no open container laws?

Yea, that's legal. Which is so sweet. I wish that was legal everywhere.

That would be a hellish drive. I haven't even convinced myself to make the drive to New Orleans yet. Apparently I want to go places where I can drink on the street.

damn i deleted the picture of me getting trashed in a shopping mall, but it's awesome. open containers are fair game pretty much anywhere out there. they're not technically allowed on the bus, but nobody cares. i've always got a tall can, 40, six pack, daiquiri as tall as i am, or any other awesome alcoholic beverage on me. and everyone else does, too.

just thought of another free thing: make sure to watch the volcano in front of the mirage erupt. and check out the shark tanks at the mirage. oh yeah and that pirate strip tease show in front of ti. it used to be an awesome pirate ship battle, but they decided to change their image to be more geared toward adults and do shit like change their name from "treasure island" to "ti."
