Hey team, I just recently started playing in the Sidekicks. We have a new record out this week and are going on tour for a while. Come say hi!

Gonna try to make Boston. The new album rules. Did you record on this one, or join more recently?

Joined after the record was made. They lived with me in Seattle while recording it though, so I was around throughout the process.

The south has been really hard to book for us in the past. We're trying to make it happen really soon!

Can you at least explain why no one comes through the Carolinas? I don't know how many tours I've seen jump straight from Atlanta, Georgia to somewhere in Virginia. Like holy shit why do so many bands pass over the only two states I've ever lived in?

Not really, unfortunately. I don't really know anything about shows in the Carolinas beyond having played one good show in Boone and one awful show in Charleston in with my old band in 2013. Both involved lots of driving and losing lots of money. Sidekicks are trying to make it down there early summer. It's definitely on the to-do list.

Also, while European women aren't usually fat, most smoke, which is a huge turnoff for me personally. But really, what the fuck...it's just a one night stand anyways, so who cares at that point.

What was wrong with the Charleston show? That's where I go to school. I've been here almost four years and I've only been able to see one band I was interested in. I think there have been a few shows I wasn't able to go to, but for the most part its been a sea of shit I've never heard of. I'm kind of surprised you've played in Boone, but I guess it's really just all college kids and that's the target market.

There just wasn't anyone there, and while we didn't really have much of a draw beyond friends and family of our guitarist (he grew up in the area), nobody came out for the locals either. Had a great time hanging out in the city itself, though. Boone worked because our guitarist from SC had a ton of friends in the area and they rallied to make it happen.

I brought it up to the other Sidekicks guys yesterday and the conversation boiled down to seeming like we didn't really know any other bands on our scale that draw well in the area. Obviously, a band like Joyce Manor or Menzingers or something like could probably bring people out, but for a band like us that doesn't have the benefit of having 100,000 kids devouring everything on our facebook/tumblr/livejournal page, touring to unproved towns can still be kinda risky, especially now when the option to skip town means having time for another show in a place where we'll actually make money and be able to really justify taking time of work for touring (it really sucks to have to distill it down into terms of money, but that's kinda the reality we have to function in). We really are trying to figure out a way to make the south work well, though. We've been tossing around the idea of doing something in June with All Dogs once their new record is out, but obviously that's really far from being set in stone.

Very cool. You guys should make more stuff like So Long, Soggy Dog instead of Awkward Breeds. Awkward Breeds was too experimental and slow and boring. Thank you!

Haaaaaa, yeah. I loved the Sam EP and I still know that's a terrible idea.

p.s. Not entirely important, but, Toby, how is your high range for harmonies live?

editedit: A tour with All Dogs would be awesommmmme. They were really good when I saw them here a couple months ago.

It's close. I think there are only three songs that we've had to adjust for my range.

Awkward Breeds was way more interesting.

Also, I went to High School with a guy in LVL UP! It's cool to see him doing stuff.

Just from a google image search Sons Of Herman Hall looks like an interesting venue. I usually don't trek to Dallas but I'll make an exception.

It's the whole I'm from Fort Worth and we're better than Dallas thing.

Awkward Breeds is far from experimental. I think it's a well paced album chock full of catchy riffs. DMT and Grace is one of the strongest starts to an album in recent memory.

Toby, will you guys still be playing anything from Awkward Breeds? I haven't heard the new album yet but DMT, Grace, 1940's Fighter Jet, The Whale and Jonah, and Daisy will always hold a special place in my heart.
